Volunteer Party at El Crucible
Thought I'd share a few pictures Scott took at the recent Crucible volunteer party. The Crucible is a FANTASTIC huge warehouse space in Oakland that hosts classes in all the fire arts. They offer everything from traditional arts like bronze-casting and glass-blowing, to electronics, stilt-walking, and fire eating. Scott and I volunteer at the Crucible as much as possible, because the people there are a bunch of twisted pyros and techno-junkies. Plus we earn serious discounts on classes. What's not to like? Anyway, they have a fun volunteer appreciation party every year. At last year's party they had pinatas... which were lit on fire and whacked! Before the party started this year we got to watch the crew moving an old caboose into the building (see below), which they intend to convert into a funky Wild West-themed cafe. We climbed around inside afterwards.
The party was fun and we were pleasantly surprised to see Lisa, Mattpaul's girlfriend, perform with fire onstage! It's very challenging to capture fire-spinner's faces because they move around so much, but we got a pretty good one of Lisa (below). Lisa's instructor Belva, on the other hand, was much harder to capture as she tilted back into a buzzsaw maneuver. Scott just finished taking her class, so we'll expect some nifty tricks from him at the next party!
