Kate's Bellybutton Lint Collection

I used to think blogs were self-indulgent navel gazing, but now I'm not so sure. From a practical standpoint, they're great for keeping up with friends, especially when you're awful about keeping in touch (like me). I know most people could probably care less what I think or do in a given week. For everyone else, this blog's for you! Enjoy my collection of hand-picked navel lint!

San Diego Comic Con 2006

Last weekend we went to San Diego for their huge 4-day Comic Convention. It was the largest gathering of geeks I think I've ever laid eyes on! Hordes of them clogged the San Diego convention center, many sporting horn rimmed glasses and Mountain Dew-stained shirts. Lots of well-done costumes. Quite a few Jedi, scads of women dressed as Poison Ivy, a few Batmen and Catwomen, and even a Flaming Carrot or two. Lots of Goths, or folks just wearing party clothes. I did one day dressed up in a pink wig, silver cape, and purple gloves, though this quickly became very hot and itchy. I don't know how the guys dressed as full-on Mech Warriors survived!

This group was so geeky, we overheard one Jedi say to another, "is that a light saber in your hand or are you just happy to see me?". (Good grief!) It was tons of fun, though. Lots of amazing art, collectible figurines, original comic book pages (some go for $100's), endless movie screenings, and lots of big name guest speakers. Scott got to interact with some of his idols, including Ray Harryhausen, Stan Lee, and Art Clokey. I had a chance to meet Carrie Fisher! Of course as soon as I reached the head of the line some guy stepped in front of me, shaking all over and babbling how honored he was to meet her. She just nodded and smiled tensely. My picture was signed "Love, to Kate", awww. If I'm ever down in the dumps I'll simply remind myself that Princess Leia loves me. :)

Old Comics Seen in New Light are FUNNY

Since the new Superman movie came out we thought we'd share this gem of a website featuring covers of old DC comic books:

Most depict Superman being a jerk towards Lois Lane and Batman, with such priceless quotes from Superman as "I'll tell you why I'll never marry you, Lana, or you, Lois! Who wants a wife so stupid she doesn't realize I'm Superman when I take off my Clark Kent glasses?" ...and... "I've tricked Lois in to thinking I'm her blackmailer. Now to find out what her awful secret is."

This one had us rolling on the floor--it uses the word "boner" to mean "mistake", of course, but in a modern context it's hilarious:
